* 2006-2009, FLON was subcontrated to represent the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as the African American Outreach Center to implement the Parents Speak Up National Campaign (PSUNC) Initiative.
At FLON, WE believe it takes an entire F.A.M.I.L.Y. to raise Young People. This includes Fathers, all Adults and Mothers Involved In Leading Young People
Parents and other Caring Adults make up the F.A.M.I.L.Y.
Njeri Shomari, LMSW, CAMF, author of the Caring Adults Network (CAN) project initiatives, states that "The family is one of the most fundamental institutions of any culture. One of the most important functions of parents and caring adults is being the first educator and the strongest advocate for a child.
Working with F.A.M.I.L.Y. in our community to support young people is the best way to help them to stay focused on pursuing their dreams to secure their future to be self-sufficient adults.

Parenting can be rewarding and enjoyable and challenging at times. You work to support their independence and newly acquired skills as you stay close by “just in case."

Protective Factors: You are the best person to help your young person with growth issues like character, values, healthy relationships, making sound decisions, avoidance from drugs, alcohol, tobacco, all forms of violence, prevention from teen pregnancy and peer pressure.
Adult Education: Throughout the year, the Caring Adult Network (CAN) sessions for parents and caring adults are scheduled. These sessions are fun, interactive, and educational.
We offer the I - CAN (Career Advancement Network) program Workforce Development Training: Career Exploration, Job Readiness, Unlocking MY Potential, Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship Development, True Colors, Leadership and Character Development.
UNDER DEVELOPMENT: The Rites of Passage: Embracing Healthy Relationships for a Healthy Lifestyle Project Initiatives includes Gentlemen of Distinction and Women of Virtue group mentoring that is currently being developed.
The group mentoring sessions are designed to be comprehensive and interactive, aiming to build skills that are crucial for strengthening marriages, two-parent families and individuals who desire to be married. The group mentoring sessions combines practical applications, ensuring participants can integrate what they learn into their daily lives.
